Imagine This!
Your group meets at the Harbourfront Canoe and Kayak
Centre facilities to be met by our friendly staff and
shown into your fleet of kayaks. Your kayak instructor
goes over some basic paddle techniques to help
facilitate the journey, then you are lead by the
instructor through the inner harbour of Toronto towards
our destination on the majestic Toronto Islands.
The Incredible Island Race Challenge!
(the ultimate team building activity)
Goal: The Incredible Island Race – teams follow a map
and/or use GPS to travel by Voyageur canoe to special
locations on the Toronto Islands where they must
complete physical and mental tasks as they try to be the
first group to complete the course before the other
teams. The winning team is decided based on a
combination of total travel time and a points system
designated for each of the tasks completed along the
way.
After the race, the event can end off with a BBQ
provided either on the Toronto Islands or back at the
Harbourfront Canoe and Kayak Centre, in which they can
relax and socialize.
Approximate duration of race – 3 hour
Survivor Challenge
Goal: Travel via Voyageur canoe out to a location on the
Toronto Islands where teams will find materials to build
a raft, which must be able to transport your entire team
around a course, then solve a puzzle on the beach before
the other team(s). After the race, the event can end off
with a BBQ provided either on the Toronto Islands or
back at the Harbourfront Canoe and Kayak Centre, in
which they can relax and socialize.
Approximate duration of challenge– 2 hours
Cost and availability varies depending on group size and
time of year

Island Race - Passport Challenge:
Your group will meet on the Toronto
Islands via the Centre Island Ferry. From there you
will be guided to the starting location of the
Incredible Island Race – Passport Challenge. Consisting
of 4 individuals, teams will be handed a sealed envelope
prior to the start of the race. Inside the envelope are
4 items: a team passport, 1 island map marked with
different locations, a reference sheet describing the
numbered locations on the map, and a pencil.
The team challenge is this:
Distributed across the Toronto Islands will be “x
number” of challenges, tasks, and puzzles, ranging from
the “iron chef” to a giant jigsaw puzzle. Each
challenge will be worth a certain number of points with
challenges located furthest from the start/finish
location worth more than those located closest to the
start/finish. Similarly, challenges that are more
difficult to complete will be worth a greater number of
points. Within the 2 hour time limit of the race, teams
must attempt to successfully complete as many challenges
as they can AND return back to the starting line before
time runs out. Strategy must be used, as it may not be
possible to complete all tasks within the race time, and
once again, some tasks will be worth more points than
others. Penalties will be awarded to those teams who
arrive at the start line after the 2 hour time limit has
expired; conversely, points will be awarded for
passports handed in before the time limit. The final
scores will be made up of tasks completed, as well as
the overall time to complete the tasks.
